The woman who changed British cooking

In the mid-20th century, having travelled parts of Southern Europe, sharing her love for fresh, unusual produce, Elizabeth David introduced the bright new world of European and Mediterranean cooking to a post-war, ration recovering Britain, inspiring household to use ingredients that have now become essential in our daily cooking.

Throughout August, two special Elizabeth David inspired dishes will feature on the A la Carte menu at Pallant Restaurant, for each dish purchased we will be making a donation of £1.00 to Pallant House Gallery. Pallant House Gallery will play host to a talk on Elizabeth David: A Life in Food, on Thursday 10th August at 6.00pm – tickets can be purchased from their website http://pallant.org.uk/events/all-events/talks. The centenary exhibition of artwork by the illustrator of David’s cookbooks, John Minton, can also be viewed at the Gallery until October 2017 with a talk on his illustrations on Thursday 27th July at 6.00pm and Thursday 31st August at 6.00pm.
